Adamawa Farmers Struggle with Rising Crop Theft

Farmers in Adamawa State are facing increasing challenges as crop theft becomes rampant, particularly due to the rising food inflation that has driven more people into farming.

Thieves are taking advantage of the abundant crops, leaving farmers like Mrs. Margret Hosea devastated after discovering that her maize farm had been completely harvested by criminals. Despite investing significant time and money, she returned to her farm along the Yola-Fufore road only to find it stripped bare.

Other farmers in the region, such as Bashir Abdul and Danjuma Gurin, have also experienced similar issues, with Abdul noticing frequent small-scale thefts from his farms in Girei LGA. Gurin, whose farms are located near populated areas, believes his proximity to occupied neighborhoods has so far deterred larger thefts. However, in some areas like Wauru Jabbe, the situation is so dire that farmers have resorted to staying overnight in their fields to protect their crops from being stolen before they even mature.

Nigerian news analyst, Mahmud Jega, has shared his opinion on the recent airstrike carried out by the United States in Nigeria, stating that Nigerians should not blame President Bola Tinubu for the incident.

Jega made this statement during a recent interview, where he said he does not believe many people will hold the Tinubu administration responsible, as Donald Trump had issued threats against Nigeria long before Tinubu’s administration.

“No, I don’t think many people will blame the Tinubu administration for what is happening now because President Donald Trump, when he first made the threats, it was clearly not in coordination with the Tinubu administration or the government of Nigeria,” Jega said.
