House Of Rep. Urges Action to Prevent Nationwide Flooding

The House of Representatives has urged the Federal Ministries of Water Resources and Environment to direct the Nigeria Hydrological Services Agency to implement measures to prevent flooding nationwide.

They also called for desilting of major dams and rivers to reduce excessive flooding, following recent floods in states like Borno, Yobe, and Zamfara that caused loss of lives and property. The motion, led by Mohammed Shehu from Bauchi State, emphasized that dredging dams and rivers is essential to protecting farmers from flood damage.

Shehu expressed concern over the lack of government support for flood control, leading to significant crop losses and financial struggles for farmers. The House Committees on Water Resources, Environment, and Agriculture were tasked to propose solutions within four weeks.
