DJ Cuppy Applauds Namibia for Making History with Female President and VP

Nigerian disc jockey and philanthropist, Florence Ifeoluwa Otedola, popularly known as DJ Cuppy, recently took to her X (formerly Twitter) handle to celebrate Namibia’s groundbreaking achievement:
“Namibia just made history. Africa’s FIRST country with BOTH a female President AND female Vice President. Maybe there’s hope for Nigeria one day after all…”
This milestone marks a significant step towards gender equality in African politics.
On March 21, 2025, Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah was inaugurated as Namibia’s first female president, coinciding with the nation’s 35th independence anniversary. At 72, Nandi-Ndaitwah brings decades of experience from her tenure in the South West Africa People’s Organization (SWAPO) and various governmental roles, including foreign minister. During her inauguration, she emphasized commitments to good governance, regional cooperation, and addressing climate change.
In a move underscoring her dedication to gender inclusivity, President Nandi-Ndaitwah appointed Lucia Witbooi as Vice President. This appointment makes Namibia the only African nation where both the president and vice president are women.
Additionally, Nandi-Ndaitwah’s cabinet includes nine women in key ministerial positions, reflecting a broader commitment to gender equality in governance.
DJ Cuppy, beyond her musical achievements, is a vocal advocate for youth empowerment and gender equality. In September 2024, she made history as the first Nigerian to host an opening session at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), where she moderated the Youth Action Day themed “The Summit of the Future – Youth Actions Day.”
During this event, she hinted at aspirations of becoming Nigeria’s first female president, a sentiment met with encouragement from UN Deputy Secretary-General Amina J. Mohammed.
