Nollywood actress Iyabo Ojo has urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to restrain the police from using tear gas on peaceful protesters. As the #EndBadGovernment movements began nationwide on August 1, 2024, reports emerged of clashes between police and local miscreants in multiple states, including Abuja, Lagos, Kano, and Borno. In Abuja, police teargassed a group of protesters at Eagles Square despite the protest being approved for Moshood Abiola National Stadium. According to The Nation, the police attempted to disperse protesters by firing tear gas canisters, but the determined group continued their march.

Similarly, protesters at the Lekki tollgate in Lagos were dispersed using tear gas canisters. These actions sparked outrage and widespread reactions on social media. On August 1, 2024, Iyabo Ojo took to Instagram to condemn the violence. In her posts, she called on President Tinubu and the police to respect the rights of protesters and allow them to demonstrate peacefully. She wrote, “Why are they throwing teargas?  @nigeriapoliceforce #peacefulprotest is their right.”

Shaboozey’s A Bar Song and Adetunji’s Kehlani were celebrated for their unique sound, adding diversity to the mix.

As expected, the list also featured big names from the global music scene, with legendary artists like Kendrick Lamar, Beyoncé, and Karol G all making an appearance.

These mainstream stars continue to dominate the music industry, but Obama’s inclusion of emerging artists such as Rema and Asake shows his appreciation for a variety of musical genres.

On sharing his list with his followers via X (formerly Twitter), Obama encouraged fans to explore the tracks, saying, “Here are my favorite songs from this year!

Check them out if you’re looking to shake up your playlist, and let me know if there’s a song or artist I should make sure to listen to.”
