Malcolm Omirhobo Calls Tinubu a Hypocrite Over Electricity Bill Advice
Human rights lawyer Malcolm Omirhobo has sharply criticized President Bola Tinubu, calling him a hypocrite following his recent comments during a presidential media chat.
Omirhobo’s remarks came after Tinubu advised Nigerians to find ways to manage and control their electricity bills, including switching off their lights to save energy.
In a post on X, Omirhobo accused the president of hypocrisy, pointing out that while Tinubu is advising Nigerians to cut back on electricity usage, he has not taken steps to reduce the extravagant costs of governance.
The lawyer argued that before asking Nigerians to make sacrifices, the president should first consider cutting down on government expenses, which he described as unsustainable and excessive.
Since Tinubu assumed office in May 2023, Nigerians have been struggling with an increase in basic services.
One of the most notable changes was the hike in electricity tariffs, which many believe has put a greater financial strain on households.
On April 3, 2024, the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) raised the tariff for customers under the Band A classification, pushing the rate from N66 to N225 per kilowatt-hour.
