Published

on

Organizers of the October 1 nationwide protest against hardship in Nigeria have confirmed they will move forward with the event despite warnings from the Federal Government and the Nigeria Police Force.

Omoyele Sowore, a former presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC) and a key organizer, declared on his X account, “NO GOING BACK! #FearlessInOctober.”  In an interview, he pointed out the worsening economic situation, noting that petrol prices have risen by nearly N300 per liter since the last protest on August 1, while the naira has further devalued and market prices have increased.

He also mentioned the impact of floods and rising violence from bandits on communities. The peaceful protest is scheduled to take place at Eagles Square in Abuja, while Lagos organizers plan to begin their march at 7:30 AM from the Ikeja Under Bridge.
