Vote Wisely for Edo’s Future, Oarhe Dickson Urges Electorates

Oarhe Dickson, a former National Assembly candidate, has called on the people of Edo State to vote wisely in the upcoming governorship election set for tomorrow.
He stressed the importance of this election in shaping a prosperous and thriving democracy, one that can bring about numerous benefits for the people.
In his statement on Thursday, Dickson emphasized that it is crucial for political parties, their candidates, supporters, and key groups, including the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), to uphold the principles of justice, equity, transparency, fairness, and adherence to the rule of law.
He urged all stakeholders to conduct themselves in a manner that reflects these values, ensuring a free and fair election process.
Dickson also appealed to Edo voters to actively participate in the election, describing Saturday’s event as an opportunity for a united family to make an important decision.
He encouraged voters to consider the future of the state and the type of leadership that can drive economic growth and development.
“In these critical times, it is essential for Edolites to make the right choice through their vote.
We need a leader who can attract investors, create wealth, and boost the state’s economy for the benefit of all its citizens,” Dickson stated.
He underscored the importance of electing someone capable of addressing the state’s current challenges and enhancing the overall well-being of the people.
The governorship election in Edo State is scheduled to take place on Saturday, with voters across the state preparing to cast their ballots at polling units statewide.

PDP Says It Will Lead Strong Coalition Despite Internal Struggles

The Senate Caucus of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has announced its readiness to lead a wide political coalition ahead of the 2027 general elections, despite the party’s ongoing internal disputes. Speaking at a press conference at the National Assembly on Tuesday, May 20, 2025, Senate Minority Leader Comrade Abba Moro assured supporters that the PDP will overcome its current challenges and come back stronger.
Moro emphasized that internal conflicts are not unique to the PDP. He pointed out that other major parties, including the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Labour Party (LP), New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), and Social Democratic Party (SDP), are also facing similar struggles. He told journalists, “Despite claims that the PDP is falling apart, the party will rise again and grow even stronger.” Moro encouraged members nationwide to stay committed and loyal, adding that the party’s leadership is planning activities to revitalize the PDP and position it as a strong competitor in future elections.
The caucus also warned against celebrating the weakening of opposition parties, saying such attitudes threaten Nigeria’s democracy by pushing the country towards a one-party system. “Democracy thrives when opposition parties hold the ruling party accountable. Celebrating the decline of other parties does not help democracy,” Moro said.
On the idea of forming a political coalition, the caucus expressed support but stressed it must come from the party itself and not from personal ambitions. Moro noted that as Nigeria’s largest opposition party, the PDP is best placed to lead any coalition efforts. He said, “The PDP’s umbrella is large enough to welcome anyone interested in a coalition. If a coalition is necessary, it should be led by the PDP.”
The caucus concluded by reaffirming the PDP’s strong national presence and its ability to bounce back from current difficulties. “The PDP is a major political force. From today’s challenges, a renewed and energetic party will emerge, ready to offer Nigerians a real alternative,” Moro stated.

Achike Says PDP Should Fix Its Problems First Before Thinking of Coalition for 2027

Former Imo State Governor, Achike Udenwa, has shared his views on the recent push for a coalition between the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and other political parties ahead of the 2027 elections. Udenwa believes the conversation about forming a coalition only exists because the PDP is currently battling internal issues. According to him, once the party resolves its crisis, there’ll be no need for any merger talks.
His comments come as speculations grow around former Vice President Atiku Abubakar reportedly offering Labour Party’s Peter Obi a running mate position in a proposed one-term agreement for 2027.
While speaking during an interview on Arise TV, Udenwa explained that the idea of a coalition might only make sense if the PDP fails to get back on track. He pointed out that Nigerians are hungry for a change, especially with how poorly the APC has performed, and if a coalition becomes the only path to deliver that change, then it might work to a certain degree.
However, he personally doesn’t think a coalition is the ideal route. In his words, the best path forward is for the PDP to regain its strength as the major opposition party. He suggested that instead of merging into a new structure, smaller parties should join forces under the PDP’s umbrella.

Barau Jibrin Says APC Is Strong and Ready to Win Big in 2027 Elections

Deputy Senate President Senator Barau Jibrin is confident that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC) will win big in the 2027 general elections. Speaking at the APC Northwest Zonal meeting organized by Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani, he called on party members to stay united and keep backing the President to ensure continued progress and electoral success.
Barau said, “Insha’Allah, we are headed for a landslide victory in 2027. Let’s keep working together, support the President, and stay united to reach our goals.” He credited the recent wave of defections from opposition parties to the APC’s growing appeal, which he linked to Tinubu’s leadership and efforts in addressing Nigeria’s security and economic problems.
“The increasing number of opposition members joining our party is no coincidence. It reflects the positive changes under President Tinubu’s leadership,” Barau noted. “Security in the Northwest has improved a lot. Areas that were once dangerous, like Birnin Gwari and parts of the Abuja-Kaduna corridor, are now safe and accessible.”
While acknowledging there is still work to be done, he stressed that the administration’s ongoing reforms and projects show they are moving in the right direction. “We are making progress. The President is working hard to tackle the nation’s challenges, especially insecurity in the North.” Barau also praised APC governors for their commitment to grassroots development, saying their efforts strengthen the party’s influence across the region.
He applauded APC National Chairman Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje for promoting unity and growth within the party, urging all members and leaders to continue collaborating. “With the strength we have now and the momentum building, it feels like no other party can match us, especially in the Northwest,” he said. “Let’s stay focused, united, and determined to deliver a big victory in 2027.”
