On September 5, the Federal High Court in Abuja will review a lawsuit from the All Progressives Congress (APC) against the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) concerning the Rivers State local government elections. Justice Peter Lifu has delayed the hearing to allow the APC to serve necessary documents to the Inspector General of Police and other defendants.

The APC argues that INEC must follow legal standards for managing and updating the voter register, including stopping registration at least 90 days before the election. The party also seeks to invalidate parts of the RSIEC Law due to conflicts with the Electoral Act, 2022. Previously, Justice Lifu issued an order preventing INEC from releasing voter registers and restricting the police and DSS from participating in the election process until the case is resolved.
