Presidency Rules Out Betta Edu’s Return to Tinubu’s Cabinet

Published

The Presidency has confirmed that former Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management, Betta Edu, will not be returning to President Bola Tinubu’s cabinet. Presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga made the announcement on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Sunday, October 27, 2024.

Edu was suspended by President Tinubu in January following public outrage over an alleged ₦585 million scandal. The president subsequently ordered an in-depth investigation into the alleged fraud within her ministry, vowing to take firm action against any individuals found guilty of misconduct.

Onanuga clarified that Edu’s position has now been permanently filled by Dr. Nentawe Yilwatda, a former governorship candidate from Plateau State. He stated, “Betta Edu is gone. Her position has been taken over by someone else — that’s the man from Plateau, who is now assuming the role. For this government, there is no place for her in the cabinet.”

This decision underscores the administration’s commitment to accountability in response to national concerns over alleged financial mismanagement
