RCCG Church in Kontagora Torched by Hoodlums for the Second Time: Calls for Justice Intensify
In the early hours of Saturday, August 10, 2024, unidentified hoodlums set ablaze the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) in Kontagora, Niger State. This is the second time in ten years that the church has been attacked.
The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) and the Emir of Kontagora strongly condemned the act, urging swift government action to bring the culprits to justice. Despite the devastation, church members remain resolute, calling for respect for freedom of worship.
Pastor Samson Ogbebor, an assistant pastor at the church, recounted the distressing event, noting that the church had been a target of hostility for years. Despite attempts to rebuild, the church had faced continuous resistance, ultimately leading to this latest arson attack.
Elder John Aboje emphasized the community’s determination to uphold their faith and urged authorities to ensure freedom of worship in the region.
The Emir of Kontagora, Alhaji Muhammadu Barau Mu’azu II, also appealed to the state governor and security agencies to handle the incident with the seriousness it deserves, ensuring that those responsible are held accountable.
The matter has been reported to the Division ‘A’ Police station in Kontagora, and an investigation is underway.
